Over one half of the world's population lives in Asia. Yet for
Christianity it is the land of paradox. Nowhere has the Christian
message been so persecuted and nowhere has it been so welcomed.
It has the lowest percentage of Christians in the world among its
enormous population, but it is also home to the largest Church in
the world. In China where most of the Church has been driven underground,
the Church grows exponentially. As the great stream of western missionaries
to Asia slows to a trickle, Korea has become the epicenter of missionary
activity sending out more missionaries than any other country in
the world.
It is in Asia that Christianity has experienced some of its greatest
triumphs and its greatest defeats. The cultures and traditions of
the East have often proved rocky ground for the Gospel seed. Yet,
Asia continues to hold more potential than any other region of the
world.
