"The Juggler of Notre Dame," a story that has been told in various forms for seven centuries, was adapted for the television holiday season as a Capital Cities Christmas Special. Merlin Olsen and Melinda Dillon join professional juggler Carl Carlsson in this hour-long syndicated drama, which aired on more than 150 stations between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The script was adapted by Lan O'Kun, (Hallmark Hall of Fame drama, "The Littlest Angel"). Mr. O'Kun also composed the original score for "The Juggler of Notre Dame." The program was produced for Capital Cities TV Productions by Paulist Productions.

In keeping with the historic legacy of the story, much of the production was shot on location at Mission San Juan Capistrano, the seventh in the chain of California missions, established by Franciscan friars in the late 18th century. Merlin Olsen portrays Jonas a tenderhearted sculptor living at the center of an artisans' community. Melinda Dillon is his sardonic sister, Dulcy. Carl Carlsson performs as the picaresque juggler, Barnaby, and Patrick Collins plays his streetwise sidekick, Sparrow.
