A graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School, Joseph Kim is licensed to practice law in California and New York. Joseph has been concentrating in entertainment law for over eighteen years. After clerking for a Federal District Judge and being associated with a law firm in New York City, Joseph moved to Los Angeles and joined A&M Records, where he was an attorney for five years. Subsequently Joseph was in private practice, representing platinum artists, producers, independent record labels and an advertising agency. Joseph has also worked for Disney as their senior music attorney on a temporary basis. Prior to joining Paulist Productions, Joseph did legal work for other nonprofit institutions as well.
At Paulist Productions, where he has been Vice President of Business Affairs since January 2002, Joseph oversees the legal and business affairs of the company. His duties include negotiating, drafting and administering film and television contracts, relating to talent services, rights acquisition, production, distribution and licensing.
On an adjunct basis, Joseph has taught music law at Pepperdine University School of Law and entertainment law at the University of California at Irvine. Formerly Director of Music of St. Sebastian Parish in West L.A., Joseph has also worked as a singer, pianist, music teacher, and director of children’s choirs at Catholic parishes in Los Angeles and New Haven. Currently, he is studying composition and jazz piano with a Concord recording artist who lives in New York City.
Of Korean descent, but born and raised in Japan, and educated in English at international primary and secondary schools in Tokyo by French Canadian Catholic missionaries, Joseph is bilingual in English and Japanese. |
